Ahmad Tajuddin Ali

Academician Tan Sri Dr. Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali  was appointed as Joint-Chairman (Industry) of the Malaysian Industry Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) on 17 November 2009.

 

Dr. Tajuddin was previously the President of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, the Director-General of Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), then the Executive Chairman of the national power company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Chairman of Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Energy Commission of Malaysia and later PLUS Expressways International Berhad.

 

An engineer by training, Dr. Tajuddin graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from King’s College, the University of London in 1973 and obtained his doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Queen Mary College, the University of London in 1977. He did post-doctoral work in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University (1977-1978) and Pennsylvania State University (1978). He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme.

 

In 1994, Dr. Tajuddin was bestowed the Special Award by Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) for his contribution towards enhancing exports of Malaysian products to Japan. In 1996, Dr. Tajuddin received the Institution of Engineers Malaysia Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Engineering Profession, and in 2009, he received the “Prominent  Player” Award from the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB).

 

He was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2000, Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Tenaga Nasional (CINITEN) in 2008, Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) in 2009, Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) in 2014 and in November 2015, he was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and recently, he was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate of Management Degree by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

 

In the private sector, Dr. Tajuddin is currently the Chairman of UEM Group Berhad, UEM Sunrise Berhad, and Linde Malaysia Holdings Berhad. He is also the Chairman of IJPM Holdings Sdn Bhd, SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd and Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM).

 

In the public sector, Dr. Tajuddin is also the Chairman of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), SIRIM Berhad (Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

 

Dr. Tajuddin is the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and a member of the International Advisory Council of the University. He is also a member of the Public-Private Partnerships under The Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia and a member of Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council. Dr. Tajuddin is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UEM and The Nusajaya Natural Heritage Trust and a member of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Khazanah, Mahathir Science Award Foundation, and as an Ordinary Member of Sultan Mizan Antarctica Research Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), his alma mater.

 

He is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers (P.Eng), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (FIEM), a Senior Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (FASc), a Fellow of The ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) and a Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET).
