The GFCC is pleased to welcome the University of Nebraska System to its network of global institutions committed to shaping the future of higher education and advancing place-making innovation.
The University of Nebraska System comprises four campus (Kearney, Omaha, Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center) and is ranked among the top 75 U.S. public universities in research and development spending.
Its research-intensive portfolio ranges across a wide range of disciplines, including: health sciences, national defense and technology, sociology, geosciences, virology, and agricultural sciences. Since 2010, research funding has increased 75 percent, which helped investment on its cutting-edge facilities.
The University of Nebraska is nationally recognized for its commitment to innovation and partnership through multiple industry collaborations. The Nebraska Innovation Campus embodies this vision by facilitating new and deeper partnerships between the university and private-sector businesses. Yet, the university holds a specialized venture to facilitate research and intellectual property commercialization.
“The University of Nebraska System sits in the core of America’s heartland. It is the historic research and growth engine driving this region across many disciplines and domains. And the System is a global leader. For example, it is transforming the future of the world’s bioeconomy, including advances in sustainable bio-manufacturing and food production. In addition to its inherent internal capacities and capabilities, the System works creatively and effectively through pioneering partnerships around the world with the private and public sectors. Under the inspired leadership of its President, Dr. Jeffrey Gold, the University of Nebraska System will contribute substantially to advancing the GFCC’s mission,” says GFCC Founder and President Deborah L. Wince-Smith.
With more than 150 years of history, Nebraska has built a lasting legacy. Throughout the years, it has been home to many influential figures, including literary naturalist Loren Eiseley, geneticist George Beadle, scientist Jay Forrester, and many others.
“The University of Nebraska has a long, proud history of research, teaching and engagement in service to the people, industry and needs of our state, and, as with any mission-driven work, the impacts are often felt far beyond the borders of our state,” said University of Nebraska President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. “It is an incredible honor for our university to be welcomed into the GFCC, and my colleagues and I are excited to continue our institution’s long legacy of important and impactful contributions in Nebraska and far beyond.”
