This week, the GFCC launched its 2026 Call to Action, Building the Talent Advantage in an AI-Driven Economy, at the Global Innovation Summit in Sofia, Bulgaria. The document sets out ten

recommendations for developing talent in an economy increasingly shaped by AI.

It addresses how education systems, businesses, universities, and governments can invest in people and human capabilities, build resilience to disruption, and earn the trust of the talent pipeline they seek to build. The recommendations range from rebuilding education around We creativity, critical thinking, systems thinking, ethics, curiosity, to protecting the pathway into expertise as AI absorbs entry-level work, to measuring human fulfillment with the same rigor as productivity.

All ten share one premise: no single institution can deliver this task alone. Competitive advantage in the years ahead will come from how effectively governments, universities, and companies work as a system.

The 2026 Call to Action builds directly on one of the action areas outlined in the 2025 Call to Action: unlock human potential by building talent at scale. Following discussions across the network at the 2025 GFCC Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, the GFCC launched the Task Force Human and AI, led by Prof. Aleks Subic, President of Torrens University Australia.

The task force produced The Human Edge: Global Perspectives on AI and Prosperity, a report drawing on insights from leaders across 32 countries on how to build human advantage in an AI-driven economy. The 2026 Call to Action was tested against those findings and refined through direct feedback from members and fellows.

The launch follows the GFCC Annual Meeting, held on Monday, October 19, in Sofia, where members worked through the ten recommendations together. In group working sessions, they mapped initiatives already under way in their countries and organizations, building a picture of what the GFCC community is doing across the world to shape a human-centered AI transition. They also explored member-led initiatives the GFCC could take forward.
