Romanian Think Tank New Strategy Center Joins the GFCC

Published on September 30, 2024

The GFCC welcomes the New Strategy Center into the organization. Based in Bucharest, this non-governmental institution specializes in foreign, defense, and security policies, providing expert advice, facilitating discussions, and conducting research focused on the Balkans and the Black Sea. Its portfolio extends beyond traditional national security concerns to include energy security, combating disinformation, societal resilience, food security, and cybersecurity.

The center's activities are designed to foster collaboration between Romanian and international institutions, the business community, and both local and foreign experts, while promoting Euro-Atlantic values and cooperation with NATO and the European Union.

To support its mission, the center boasts a distinguished Scientific Council, which includes former Romanian foreign ministers, national security advisors, diplomats, retired generals and admirals, as well as high-level experts who have held significant positions in Romania.

"Romania has been enhancing its competitive position year after year through a series of structural reforms. Organizations like the New Strategy Center play a crucial role in highlighting the strategic importance of the region and boosting its productivity capacity, through its mission of facilitating knowledge exchange and partnerships with international organizations", says GFCC President Deborah L. Wince-Smith.

Additionally, the center organizes a diverse array of events that address the most pressing topics in international relations and security.

"It is a great honor to join the GFCC. We want to bring our experience on the strategic importance of the Black Sea at the global level. A free and open Black Sea means connectivity, food, energy, all being important for regional and global stability. Competitiveness means first a democratic, predictable environment for the economy, it means free trade and connectivity. Our experts will be happy to contribute to a better understanding of the region and the current and future challenges in the Black Sea and Balkans region, contributing to the knowledge exchange that the GFCC facilitates so well", says Mr. George Scutaru, CEO New Strategy Center.
