The GFCC has appointed the Honorable John Anderson AC, former Australian politician, as a Distinguished Fellow. He joins a select group of thought leaders contributing to our mission of accelerating competitiveness and innovation around the world.

Mr. Anderson has an extensive history in public service, having served in the Australian Parliament for 19 years as Minister for Primary Industries and Energy, Minister for Transport and Regional Development, and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, among other high-level roles.

From 1996 to 2005, during the government of Prime Minister John Howard, Mr. Anderson served as the Leader of the National Party and as Deputy Prime Minister. In this period, the Liberal–National coalition achieved significant socio-economic progress for the Australian people.

With Mr. Anderson playing a key role, the coalition focused on budget repair and tax modernization. As a result, Australia achieved an average annual GDP growth rate of 3.6%, regained its AAA credit rating, and saw average household income double between 1994–95 and 2007–08. The economy generated two million new jobs, and the number of apprentices in training more than doubled.

“In an era of turbulence and rapid change, strengthening our partnerships with like-minded nations to safeguard global security and promote shared prosperity is more important than ever. I am pleased to welcome the Honorable John Anderson AC as a Distinguished Fellow, confident his values and ability to collaborate will enhance our mission to advance global competitiveness, drive innovation, and foster economic growth for all,” said GFCC Founder and President, Deborah L. Wince-Smith.

Mr. Anderson also led reform in the transportation sector through Auslink and in the National Water Initiative, along with advancing other social and economic outcomes for Australia

"The answer to the deep current concerns about the cost of living and declining living standards lies in very large part in rebooting and indeed energizing Australia's productivity. It is in fact the main key to tackling inflation and improving real take home pay, and I’m honoured to be able to support this endeavour in a new way", says Mr. Anderson.
