Published on Monday 28 April, 2025

GFCC Vice-Chair Mr. Charles Kiefel AM was interviewed by Sky News today, outlining strategies to enhance the nation's productivity and sharing insights on Australia's performance in the 2024 IMD Competitiveness Rankings.
Mr. Kiefel emphasized the crucial role of Australia’s natural resources — including gas, uranium, and rare earth materials — in driving value creation and strengthening the country’s global competitiveness.
Australia is one of the world’s largest uranium suppliers today. Mr. Kiefel advocated for leveraging these resources to move the country higher from its current 13th-place ranking.

Additionally, Mr. Kiefel argued for the reduction of corporate tax rates to enhance Australia's competitiveness and productivity. He believes that the current rate of 30% is high compared to other countries, which hinders business sustainability and undermines Australia's position in the global market.

He also highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring, benchmarking, and learning from best practices, referencing the work of the GFCC’s founder, the US Council on Competitiveness.

Finally, Mr. Kiefel also emphasized the value of international networking among leaders through the GFCC, which acts as a catalyst for innovation and economic growth.
