Omar is the Secretary General of the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council. Omar began his career in the Oil and Gas sector at ExxonMobil and continued in the manufacturing sector to support the development of Qatar’s primary aluminium plant, Qatalum. Omar transitioned to working on issues of national strategic importance such as the development of the National Food Security Strategy.

 

Omar implemented major elements of this strategy, working in an advisory and think-tank capacity to government leadership, as well as advising on policy and managing a portfolio of public-private partnership projects. Omar led the development of the Qatar Research and Development Strategy 2030 (QRDI 2030); and engages with critical stakeholders to help continue the development of a strong, dynamic holistic RDI ecosystem capable of addressing national imperatives and delivering significant economic and societal impact.
