GFCC Launches New Driving Innovation in Times of Crisis Report

Crises are now a common feature of the global economy and understanding the mechanisms that allow businesses, governments, and organizations to bounce back from disruption has become a key competitiveness attribute.

In its newest report, the GFCC and its member, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), share key ideas and insights that emerged during the first year of the Driving Innovation in Times of Crisis (DITC) initiative.

In 2022, we hosted two webinars with experts from Japan and worldwide on crisis preparedness and ways to recover from future shocks.

Dr. Haruo Hayashi, President, National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), Ms. Geraldine Wessing, Chief Political Analyst & Scenario Planner, Shell, Dr. Yuichi Ono, Professor, International Research, Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), Tohoku University, Mr. Oleksiy Ustenko, Ukrainian politician and economist; MP, People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 9th convocation, and Mr. Charles O. Holliday, GFCC Chairman, participated in the discussions.

Our hosts, Dr. Roberto Alvarez, Executive Director, GFCC, the Hon. Deborah L. Wince-Smith, President, GFCC, President & CEO, Council on Competitiveness, and Dr. Kazuyoshi Shimada, Director, Washington D.C. Office, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), moderated the conversations.

The new report documents the webinar discussions and highlights goals for the DITC initiative in 2023 and the following years. Additionally, it provides an overview of key topics discussed during the GFCC Annual Meeting in November last year in Athens, Greece.
