GFCC and Council on Competitiveness to host Innovation Arena at COP 28 in Dubai

The GFCC and its sister organization, the Council on Competitiveness (CoC), will lead an Innovation Arena during COP 28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on December 6.

The event will gather global leaders from business, academia, national laboratories, research organizations, and the public sector in discussions focused on tackling sustainability challenges through innovative practices.

Under the theme Bridging University-Industry-Society to Advance Sustainability, the Innovation Arena wants to envision and catalyze potential contributions that research universities worldwide can make to address climate change and other sustainability challenges.

Besides the need to amplify the role of universities and research laboratories in the sustainability ecosystem, conversations will also revolve around the importance of developing and deploying technologies at speed and scale, the need to build a robust clean energy innovation ecosystem, and how to finance sustainability to make an impact.

This effort is a continuation of work done by GFCC and it's members on innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness which has recently culminated with the launch of the Call to Action-Innovate the Sustainable Future

Leaders from the GFCC and CoC networks have confirmed their attendance. Among the confirmed participants is Dr. Ray O. Johnson, CEO Technology Innovation Institute and Aspire, Dr. Nkem Kumbah, Head of STI Policy Systems, Governance and Partnerships, Africa Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Abdul Hamid Zakri, Vice-Chair, Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High-Technology (MIGHT).

Finally, through this joint event GFCC and CoC aim to connect leaders from the Global North and South and build a pathway for continued engagement in the coming years.
