GFCC Shares Insights on University Innovation at Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Summit

The Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Summit in partnership with Qatar University was held January 14-16 in Doha, Qatar. The Summit was attended by participants from 40 different countries across the globe and chaired by the President of GFCC member Qatar University, Hassan Al-Derham, who co-chaired the GFCC Optimizing Innovation Alliances Report. GFCC Executive Director Roberto Alvarez contributed to a panel discussion on industry and innovation; and discussed the work and best practices for engagement with industry find within the GFCC University and Research Leadership Forum and the crucial role that universities play in driving innovation and economic growth. Professor Sethuraman Panchanathan, Executive VP of Knowledge Enterprise Development at Arizona State University, a GFCC member of the GFCC and partner for the GFCC Global Competitiveness Academy, delivered a keynote address on university transformation.

Sessions from the 2018 summit included panel discussions such as “President’s Forum on Resilience: University Leaders Responding to Adversity,” which was chaired by John Gill, editor of Times Higher Education, and “Are Universities a Catalyst or Consequence of the Rise of Emerging Markets,” chaired by Bahram Bekhradnia, President of the Times Higher Education Policy Institute.
