The GFCC has long supported the mission of Smart Cities New York in promoting dialogue on city innovation, competitiveness and sustainability. During SCNY 2017 GFCC President Deborah Wince-Smith moderated a panel on leading cities into the future, and in 2018 GFCC Executive Director Roberto Alvarez moderated a panel on building 21st century cities. This year we are proud to renew our partnership with Smart Cities New York for their 2019 edition (May 13-15), which will be chaired by GFCC Distinguished Fellow Jerry Hultin.
Speakers at the conference will explore the emerging power of cities on the world stage, discuss the unique challenges and opportunities of urban life, and address key questions defining our time – How can cities collaborate and share innovations? Where are today’s ideas and expertise coming from? Who is leading the movement to build better, safer, smarter cities?
The Speaker line-up for 2019 includes: Steve Benjamin, Mayor of Columbia, SC, and President of the US Conference of Mayors, Varelie Croes, Chief Innovation Officer for the Government of Aruba, Vishaan Chakrabarti, Founder of FAIA, Eric J Gertler, Chairman, U.S. News & World Report, and Jan Vapaavuori, Mayor of the City of Helsinki.
