Founded in 1948, PUCRS is a reference in higher education and research in the country and in the world. A Marist university of excellence, aimed at the comprehensive education of students, in their religious, humanistic, scientific, professional and citizen dimensions, which contribute to the development and progress of Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil. Located in Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, PUCRS campus offers a true university experience in an environment that implements learning research and growth. PUCRS offers 51 undergraduate programs, more than 1 00 options for certificate courses, 24 Master’s and 21 Doctorate programs.

Tecnopuc – PUCRS’ Science and Technology Park (Tecnopuc) fosters research and innovation by means of concerted actions joining the University, public and private organizations and the government.

Tecnopuc is part of PUCRS’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Network, Inovapucrs, which is composed by a series of activities and structures that work in synergy to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship at the University.

More than 120 companies and institutions, totaling more than 6,600 professionals, are established in the two park locations. In Porto Alegre, its area is 11.5 hectares, with over 50,00 m2 of constructed area. In Viamão, in the metropolitan area, its area is 15 hectares, with 35,000 m2 of constructed area.

Tecnopuc is multisectoral and gathers projects, in the key areas of research and development of PUCRS: Information and Communication Technology (ICT);    Energy and Environment;    Life Sciences;   Creative Industry.

Mission

Based on human rights, on the principles of Christianity, and on the tradition of Marist education, the Mission of PUCRS is to produce and disseminate knowledge and promote human and professional development, driven by quality and relevance, with the objective of developing a just and fraternal society.

Vision

In 2022, PUCRS will be reference at both national and international levels for the quality of the education it offers and for the relevance of its research, committed to innovation and sustainable development, thus promoting the full education of students and contributing to scientific, cultural, social and economic development.

Dr. Joaquim Clotet

Dr. Joaquim Clotet

Joaquim Clotet, PhD in Philosophy, University of Barcelona, being Ethics his main area of research. Doctor Honoris Causa Dalhousie University, (Canadá)

After his doctorate, Professor CLOTET carried out studies and research on Ethics: Georgetown University,  Warwick University, and University of Oxford.  

Former professor at the School of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona for nine years.

He took office as President of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul – PUCRS, Porto Alegre, Brazil, in December, 2004.

Besides being the President of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil, – PUCRS, from 2004, he is also a Full Professor of Bioethics at the Medical Graduate Program and at the Dentistry Graduate Program as well.

Author and co-author of 11 books on ethics and bioethics, published in Spain, Argentina and Brazil. He is also the author and co-author of 29 articles on ethical and bioethical issues.

He was a Member of the Hume Society, of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics (USA), of the Iberoamerican Society of Utilitarian Studies (Spain), of the Hastings Center (USA) and of the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics (USA.), of the National Committee for Access and Use of the Human Genome, and for Ethics in Research, both from the Brazilian Ministry of Health (1997-2001).
