This week Council on Competitiveness President & CEO Deborah Wince-Smith and Executive Vice President Chad Evans – alongside Lockheed Martin CTO and GFCC Member Keoki Jackson, and Deere & Co.’s Senior Innovation Advisor to the Chairman Klaus Hoehn – launched the U.S.-Australia CTO Innovation Alliance, first conceived in late 2017.
The CTO Alliance brings together from both nations industry, academia, and public sector technology leaders to strengthen the U.S.-Australia innovation partnership and design new models of bilateral collaboration.
The Council’s Australian partners, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) Chief Executive Larry Marshall, and the Australian Advisory Board on Healthcare and Technology Competitiveness Co-Chair and GFCC Board Member Charles Kiefel – along with high-level U.S. and Australian delegates from the defense, agriculture, finance, mining, manufacturing, communications and health care sectors – met for the inaugural Dialogue in Sydney on March 25th at CSIRO’s Data 61 Center. And they have spent the week engaging senior leaders of Australia’s innovation ecosystem across Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra in conversations and meetings – including a deep dive on the “factory of the future” at GFCC Member Swinburne University – to explore a range of partnership possibilities, focusing on areas of critical, strategic importance for both nations, including: quantum computing, moving beyond Moore’s Law, personalized medicine and agriculture, the future of energy, and advanced manufacturing.
Wince-Smith, Jackson, Hoehn and Marshall presented initial outcomes from the Sydney dialogue on Wednesday evening to Australia’s Minister of Health, the Honorable Greg Hunt.
Dialogue participants also agreed to develop action groups and to explore meeting again in Washington, DC in November 2019 with the Council’s long-standing “Technology Leadership & Strategy Initiative” to move forward the efforts identified in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.
